Recap: Bellport versus Comsewogue

The Game at A Glance: Comsewogue jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead, only to see Bellport come back to make it 21-14. In the fourth quarter Comsewogue held off Bellport on a 4^th and goal to preserve the win.

First Half Highlights: Comsewogue received the opening game kick off and proceeded to march down the field for a 1^st quarter touchdown. The running game, specialty teams was excellent the whole first half especially Marrone, Deluca, Keefe, Infanzon, Hughes and the offensive line. When they needed to throw they had a big target in the 6’5 Scotland and sure handed Morales. The way the mixed up their plays and their team speed had Bellport scratching their heads as to what was coming next. One other big weapon for Comsewogue was the strong Leg of PK Matt Cossidente who continually put every kickoff into the end zone and thus forcing no returns.

Bellport didn’t do much better on defense either as they couldn’t run the ball on Comsewogue’s defense. When they tried to throw the defense either hurried the QB Honce or sacked him. Comsewogue’s big weapon on defense was Scotland who was all over the field. In addition was the play of Nelson, Acosta, Hannel and Krisa. Ist quarter ended with Comsewogue having a 21-0 lead

Second Half Highlights: With the score still 21-0 midway through the 3^rd quarter Bellport finally got it going as Honce, Chavious and Armand Correa picked up the pace and put 14 points on the board. Bellport’s defense also played a lot better and as a result Comsewogue was in danger of giving up its once big lead. However on a 4^th and goal on the Comsewogue 1 yard line Honce was stopped and Bellport had to turn the ball over. The game however was still in limbo when Comsewogue facing a 3^rd and 6 at their own 4 yard line handed the ball to RB Infanzon and he ran for 60 yards sealing the win

Play Of The Game: There are 2 plays of the game; the 4^th and goal that Comsewogue stopped Bellport and the 60 yard run with time running out by Comsewogue

Game Balls: Comsewogue game balls goes to Scotland for his leadership and hard work on both sides of the ball (3 ½ sacks and clutch receptions). Others who should be included are Keefe, Deluca, Infanzon, Hughes, Acosta, Morales, offensive line, defensive line and specialty teams (especially PK Cossidente and KR/PR Hughes). In a losing cause Bellport game balls go to Honce, Chavious and Armand Correa.

Audibles:

If Scotland keeps playing like this he will definitely be playing at the next level (he has long arms and good speed). Also I can see why Honce was recruited and committed to Brown University because the entire game was under pressure and yet he still came at you the entire game.
This was the first game as head coach for both Comsewogue’s Sean Trembley and Bellprt’s Joe Cipp III. However I can see these guys having a big time rivalry playing one and other.
